Trump G7
Trump’s new plan, outlined to reporters on Saturday, is to
host an expanded trump g7 meeting including Russia, Australia, South Korea and India, dedicated
to building an alliance against China. The plan is likely to be controversial
because Russia has been banned from western-led summits since Putin’s annexation of
Crimea in 2014, and is not seen as a natural ally in the
defence of human rights in Hong Kong.
The trump g7 brings together the US, Japan, France,
Germany, the UK, Canada and Italy. It contradicted the US government’s previous
announcement that the trump g7 meeting
would be a teleconference as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
U.S. President Donald Trump’s
pitch to re-invite Russia to the trump g7
got a swift thumbs-down from fellow world leaders on Monday. The trump g7 nations agreed to suspend Russia's membership
in what was then the G8 after Moscow annexed the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine
in 2014. Readmission would require unanimous support among members of the
current group.
India has not responded to
the suggestion that it join the trump g7,
but its leader attended the G8 summit in 2005, at the request of British Prime
Minister Tony Blair.
